Private vs. split charter
Choose a private charter if you want the whole boat, a custom game plan, and the trip built around your group. Choose a split charter if you want to share the cost and still fish offshore without booking the full boat.
- Private: best for families, groups, celebrations, and anglers who want the boat to themselves.
- Split: best for solo anglers and couples who want the offshore experience at a lower buy-in.
Why prices vary
Florida Keys charter pricing changes with trip length, target species, season, and fuel burn. Longer offshore trips and swordfish expeditions require more prep, more run time, and heavier equipment than a shorter reef trip.
Thatβs why live pricing and availability matter more than old static rate sheets.
Common Booking Questions
The questions every angler asks before they hit "book."
How much does it cost?
Split charters start at $475 per person plus a $50/seat fuel surcharge. Private: $1,200 half-day, $1,800 3/4 day, $2,200 full day, $2,700 swordfish, each plus a fuel surcharge ($200 most trips, $500 swordfish). Repeat clients get 10% off.
What's included?
Captain, mate, all bait and tackle, Florida saltwater licenses for every angler, bottled water, ice, and fish cleaning. You bring food, polarized sunglasses, non-spray sunscreen, and cash for the mate (15 to 20% standard).
What if the weather is bad?
Captain Kit monitors conditions closely and has sole authority to cancel for safety. If we cancel for weather, you get a full refund or can reschedule at no charge. We fish in light rain. We do not fish in lightning or unsafe seas. The call is made before you leave for the marina when possible.
What's the cancellation policy?
14+ days out: full refund minus the 6% processing fee. 7-13 days: 50% refund. Inside 7 days: no refund unless we resell the date. Weather cancellations called by the captain: full refund or reschedule at no charge.
Deposit or full payment?
Online bookings require full payment to confirm the date. Phone or text bookings can be arranged with a 50% deposit, balance due day-of. Credit cards, digital wallets, and cash all accepted. Mate's tip is paid in cash at the end of the trip.
Private or split?
Private is best for families, groups of 3-6, and anyone targeting specific species on a custom trip. Split is best for solo anglers and couples who want offshore fishing without booking the whole boat. Split is capped at 4 anglers per trip so everyone gets real rod time.
Discounts for repeat or groups?
Repeat clients get 10% off. Group discounts available for multi-day or back-to-back bookings, contact Captain Kit directly at (305) 209-5594. Active military, first responders, and veterans get 10% off with ID. Off-season weekday bookings (September-October) often have extra flexibility.
What if we don't catch fish?
Nobody can guarantee fish, but DirtyBoat carries 373 five-star reviews because we fish hard regardless of conditions. On unusually slow days, we extend the trip when possible, adjust tactics, or run to backup spots. We don't refund slow days. We do refund canceled trips, and we reschedule for catastrophic weather.
