How long is the trip?
4 hours of fishing on the 42' DirtyBoat 2.0. Morning trips run 7am-11am, afternoon trips 1pm-5pm. We fish the reef and wrecks 5-10 minutes from Robbie's, so all 4 hours go to actual fishing: no long runs eating your time.
How much does it cost?
$1,200 plus $200 fuel for up to 6 anglers: about $235 per person split six. The 4-hour trip includes captain, mate, live bait, all tackle, licenses, ice, water, and fish cleaning. Lowest-cost way to fish the same boat and captain as the offshore trips.
What can we catch?
Yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, mutton snapper, black and red grouper, king mackerel, cero mackerel, and barracuda are the regulars. Bonus shots at sailfish in winter on kite spreads, blackfin tuna at the reef edge, and sharks year-round.
Is it good for families?
Yes: most family-friendly trip on the board. 4 hours is short enough that kids and first-timers don't get tired or seasick. Reef fishing produces steady action so everyone catches fish. About 40% of these trips include first-time saltwater anglers.
Where do you fish?
Islamorada reef in 30-100 ft, 5-10 minutes from Robbie's Marina (MM 77.5). Yellowtail snapper on patch reefs, mutton snapper on coral heads, grouper on ledges, kingfish along the color change. Wrecks like the Eagle and Spiegel Grove when weather allows.
What techniques do you use?
Anchor over a productive patch reef and chum a slick, then drift live pilchards or cut bait back to the snapper. Drop weighted baits to grouper structure. Slow-troll live baits for kingfish and sailfish on the way back to the dock. We adjust based on what's biting.
Are they good to eat?
Yellowtail, mutton, and mangrove snapper are some of the best-eating fish in the world: white, mild, firm. Grouper is iconic Florida Keys table fare. We fillet at the dock. Most clients take fillets to Robbie's restaurant or Square Grouper to have them cooked fresh that night.
What are the limits?
Yellowtail snapper: 10/angler/day, 12" minimum. Mutton snapper: 5/angler/day (within 10-snapper aggregate), 18" minimum. Black grouper: 4/angler/day in season, 24" minimum. Gag and red grouper seasons vary annually: we fish what's open and stay current on FWC regs.
