Captain's Log — March 10, 2026
Conditions
East wind 10 knots building to 10-15 this afternoon. Seas 1-2 feet. Partly cloudy, high near 79°F. About as good as it gets for March out of Islamorada.
Water Report
The warm blue water is riding tight to the reef line right now — we’re talking 8 miles or less off Alligator Light. Temps are pushing 77-78°F in the stream with a hard break where the cooler green water meets that clean blue. That edge is stacked with bait. Ballyhoo are loaded along the reef, and where there’s bait, there’s bills.
Word on the water is the color change has been holding close all week. Current is running north at a good clip, which pins bait right against the reef edge. That’s the kill zone.
The Plan
We’re flying kites today. Flat seas and east wind is a kite fisherman’s dream — baits stay in the zone, sails are cruising that edge looking for an easy meal. Working the reef line from Alligator out to the Islamorada Hump in 100-400 feet of water.
Sailfish are the main target but don’t sleep on the kingfish — they’ve been chewing along the same edges. Blackfin tuna mixed in around the humps on the half-moon tide.
Book It
Spring sailfish season is firing. Flat days like this don’t last forever. Check out our Islamorada fishing charters and book your trip today — let’s go bend a rod.
