Captain's Log — March 13, 2026

Friday the 13th? Lucky for Us.

Woke up to a glassed-out ocean this morning. Variable winds under 5 knots, seas laying down at a foot or less. If you’re not on the water today, you’re making a mistake.

What We’re Seeing

Water temps are sitting 76–79° along the reef line with a sharp break where the warm blue pushes up against the cooler green stuff inshore. That edge is tight — running right along the 100 to 200 foot line from Key Largo south through Islamorada.

The bait is stacked. Ballyhoo are pinned along that color change where the clean water meets the green. Word on the water is the stream is riding close today — current edges well-defined, pushing bait right into the reef. That’s a dinner bell for sails.

The Play

We’re running kites along the reef edge in 120–180 feet of water. Live ballyhoo under the kites, slow-trolling the edges. Sailfish are the main event — they’ve been feeding on these breaks all week. Wahoo and kingfish mixed in along the deeper side. Don’t sleep on blackfin tuna around the Islamorada Hump if you want to make a run.

Moon’s waning at 29% — good visibility in the water column. Sails should be aggressive.

Bottom line: flat seas, tight stream, stacked bait. This is the day you booked a charter for.
