Tampa Family Mahi Hunt Pays Off

Chris and Jamie brought the boys, Bronson and Brock, down from Tampa today with Grandma Dawn riding along for a family mahi mission.
That is a good crew before the lines even go in.
We pointed DirtyBoat offshore and found our first set of birds in about 450 feet of water. It looked right. Felt right. The kind of setup that makes everybody stand up a little straighter.
Nobody was home.
So we kept hunting.
Staying Inside Paid Off
Yesterday, a lot of fish were caught way out in 700 to 900 feet of water.
That can make it tempting to keep burning east until the numbers match yesterdayβs story. But every day offshore is its own animal, and today we made the call not to run too deep.
Good call.
We stayed in the zone and worked what the ocean gave us: different weed edges, birds, turtles, and scattered life. No one magic stop. No wide-open circus. Just reading the signs, checking the right pieces, and picking away at fish.
Not Red Hot, Still Worth It
The fishing was not red hot, but steady hunting put meat on the deck.
- 10 schoolie mahi
- 1 teenager mahi
- A happy Tampa family crew
That is a solid August mahi day. The kind where you make a few smart calls, keep everybody in the game, and come back to Robbieβs with enough color in the box to make the dock walk feel right.
Chris, Jamie, Bronson, Brock, and Grandma Dawn were good company all day, and that makes the grind a whole lot better.
Always a good time on DirtyBoat.
